Thanks to Tim @ Sideways cycles I’m now the owner of a Genesis day one cross!!!
Although similar to the Flyer there are a few differences. Certain parts on the Flyer are better quality, forks & wheels for a start so you can see where the extra £100 comes from . I’m not a fan of mini v’s but these seem to work very well even with a nice gap from the rim. I will in time fit tektro cr520 cantis. This will have guards fitted and 23mm in summer and 35mm in winter.
I’ve not changed too much but will change to a Fizik saddle and fit a white industries freewheel when the current Shimano one starts to grumble. I may even risk a mini tour on it!!

NOoooo!!!!!!, that’s supposed to ne my new bike.
I’m still torn between the roadrat, pompino and the day one. Just a shame the day pne isn’t available as a frame only
I’ve wanted this bike for a while now and it’s not disappointed. I’m really enjoying steel frames again, I miss my old Raleigh Record with dt shifters!
I can’t say how it rides because tonight is the christening ride. I still prefer the Flyer but this Day one will now take me to Hanchurch again!!
Out of your choices I’d go for the day one
The Roadrat is my next choice, I’m unsure about the pompino but they’re doing a new version soon with discs called the pompetamine!!
Irronically one of the main duties of this bike was to allow me to get over to Hanchurch more often.
Hanchurch is just 5/6miles away from where I work so cycling there on the MTB isn’t a problem. The annoying bit is cycling home again. Its about ~15miles home and this seems to take forever on a SS MTB. Its the ride home that puts me off going!
That’s the main reason I had this bike too. Dragging the mtb over so much tarmac was gruelling plus it ate the tyres.
If you need one of these go and see Tim @ Sideways and ask for a bit of discount, he’ll do you a good deal ;D
